Passage A: The Mid-Autumn Festival
The Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional Chinese festivals. It falls on the 15th day of the eighth lunar month. On this day, family members get together and eat mooncakes. Mooncakes are round, symbolizing family reunion. At night, people go outside to admire the full moon. The moon is believed to be the fullest and brightest on this night. There is also a famous legend about Chang’e, who flew to the moon. The Mid-Autumn Festival has a history of over 1,000 years. It was listed as a national intangible cultural heritage in 2006. Today, people still celebrate this festival with great joy. Children carry colorful lanterns and play under the moonlight. In some places, people also perform dragon dances. The festival reminds us of the importance of family and togetherness. It teaches us to value the time we spend with our loved ones. No matter how busy we are, this festival brings us back home.
