Since the reform and opening-up policy was introduced in 1978, China has achieved unprecedented economic growth. It has transformed from a largely agricultural society into the world’s second-largest economy. China is now the world’s largest trading nation and the largest manufacturer. The service sector has become the biggest contributor to GDP growth. Meanwhile, China has lifted hundreds of millions of people out of poverty, which is widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in human history.
